Video Editing Reel

I have been editing video as early as 2008, back when there was no creative cloud and YouTube was still in it’s relative infancy.

As a filmmaker and visual creative, I’m passionate about YouTube as a platform and what it represents. It is a haven for many artists, where so many ideas can cross any boarder of the world, where anyone can find their opportunity.

YouTube is a place where there is an audience for any idea. Now I work to bring those ideas to life for so many.

☙Motion work for Brutalmoose❧

Date
2020 & 2022

Role
Motion Designer & Animator

Client
BrutalMoose

I was approached by Ian “BrutalMoose” Macleod to do work for both their YouTube and Twitch channel. The work on the BrutalMoose YouTube channel has a consistent nostalgic tone, incorporating aesthetics and textures of a time before internet-culture to bring a unique approach to culture and content.

The intro and outro bumpers were designed to be reminiscent of the old VHS companies and television networks of the technicolor age. I collaborated with Ian who did the music to help time the logo, keeping it simple in execution, but with the extra razzle-dazzle that my work is known for.

Ian’s work is always run through original hardware. Once my final animation was done, it was passed through a VHS and CRT television in order to get the authentic texture of old televisions and how they rendered colour and light.

The Twitch animation was designed to work as a flexible asset for a live production, as well as giving the audiences find new details every watch. Ian trusted me with the process and gave the simple direction of “making the art feel alive”. I feel I created that environment with direct precision of a classic drive-in theatre.

☙The completionist & TOVG❧

Originally hired by That One Video Gamer as a video editor for their headline show “The Completionist” and their secondary show “New Game Plus” - video game review and retrospective shows about the process of finishing a game in their entirety.

During my time at TOVG the videos I edited and created assets for resulted in what CEO Jirard Khalil described as: “the best work we have ever produced”, who then provided me the chance to create a new documentary retrospective show titled “A Complete Legacy”.

Once the company was able to hire a new editor I was effectively promoted as the lead motion designer and senior of post-production, allowing me to focus my time on polishing videos to the best they could be while also managing and mentoring junior editors who joined the team.

The work I did for That One Video Gamer was produced to fit with a within the project’s tight and consistent upload schedule, to a quality that was deemed above and beyond by the studio. I am grateful to TOVG for seeing my potential and providing opportunities to work effectively and to create a space for creative works to excel.

☙Edgelords with Matt McMuscles❧

Role

Client
Matt McMuscles

Date
2018

I approached by online media industry veteran, Matt McMuscles to work as an editor on a variety of retrospective and comedic journalist videos like, “What Happened” - a show that does deep dives on the commercial or cultural failures of video games and other pieces of media.

After proving my skillset and helping bring success to the channel’s growth and retention - Matt asked me to work on a new show called “EdgeLords” a character analysis show looking at notable characters in pop culture judged by cartoon host: “Ashen the Vioblader”. I was given the task of dictating the pace and tone of the show, which came very naturally to me thanks to the premise of the show. We worked with musicians, illustrators, and animators to help bring this show to life.

☙Personal YouTube works❧

Role
Creator

Date
2012 - 2018

My early bouts with online media were personal passion projects. I have always had a passion for game design and media analysis, so I put time and effort to express my own ideas and experiment with creative outlets via my own YouTube channel.

My approaches to game design and media analysis allowed me to foster a small but dedicated community who still support my creative ambitions to this day.

Although I consider my skillset to have far exceeded what my channel once was, we all have to start from somewhere. I feel blessed that where I started attracted a majority of my clients and my work was seen as ahead of the curve of the video-essay boom that YouTube is now known for.

To this day I still get requests inquiring me to return to my own YouTube channel, and as nostalgic I am for it, I want to grow creatively in ways that aren’t explicitly bound to YouTube - despite how much I truly believe in the platform and the creators there.
